 Habits
are hard to change, but not impossible.
It's a common held belief that it takes 21 days to change a habit.
My personal experience is that it has taken years to modify some
habits and some have still not changed! In the years of coaching
people in the area of diets and eating changes, I have often marveled
how some could follow a diet to the "T" and others simply
didn't; often creating a sense of "no will power" attitude.
Habits are hard to change, but not impossible. What I have realized
is that you first need to understand what your natural behavior
style is. This will help you understand what will work for you in
the area of diets, exercise, eating records, and all the other solutions
that traditional diet support companies tout.
There are no simple answers. Many of you have perhaps already discovered
this just as I have in the past--trying every diet that gets popularized.
Now its the low carbs diet, but do you also remember the food combining
diets, the carbohydrate addict's diet, the mayo diet, the grapefruit
diet etc., etc., etc.
Some
diets do work to some extent. Many may actually get the
results they are looking for. Unfortunately not for long. Some might
have even been like myself, attempt one plan or two that makes sense,
buy the food with great enthusiasm all to find myself eating a food
that wasn't on the "plan". Regretfully later saying, "what
a failure", "I'm too busy", or "I could do this
is I had a private chef!" Sound familiar?
This same rationale applies to exercise as well. Was it worth joining
a class, a gym or even purchasing equipment? The stories still have
a familiar ring.
This was my life until recently. Several years ago, my work shifted
and I began to work with others to build businesses for themselves
as well as help business owners expand their business. I realized
while coaching a private client, his behavioral style for business
had a direct relationship to his ability to "follow a diet".
Wow, talk about a V-8 moment!
