Can You Really Treat Aging Skin Or Just Cover It Up?

Your skin is the largest organ of the body and acts as a protective barrier from harmful pollutants, objects, and liquids. However, the skin can easily absorb ingredients that are applied to it, so what you put on it can actually be harmful to your health!

Recent discovers at Purdue University by Drs. James and Dorothy Morre on skin cancer cells, has lead to the discover of an enzyme that is a super free radical generator later named arNOX (aging-related cell surface NADH oxidase).  It lives on the surface of our cells and works tirelessly to generate skin damaging free radicals. Mainly inactive in our youth, studies found that it accelerate its activity as we age and varies by individual. Working with Stanford University, Purdue assessed key indictors or aging (wrinkles, age-spots, etc.) With visual and blood work, the results were those with high levels of arNOX on average appeared 7 years older than those with lower levels.  The conclusion was if we could bring down our arNOX levels, we could look younger.

Enter Nu Skin Research & Development, a nutraceutical company that built on that research out come.  When studies done at Stanford backed up this finding, NuSkin went aggressively looking for other evidence that skin aging was more than chronicological and/or environmental.   What came of those years was a discover that there are cluster's of genes that affect aging.  These genes can be manipulated by natural ingredients to reset themselves for a more youthful expression in 8 aspects of skin aging.Gene chip heatmap for a youthful gebe profile

ageLOC Galvanic Spa by NuSkinMost companies just deal with the signs and symptoms of aging on the skin.  To truly appreciate working at the sources of aging. Consider giving yourself a galvanic treatment.  Using direct current to push ingredients further into the skin , the end results is an increase of absorption of active ingredients.  You can locate a med-spa in your area.  One treatment will range between $85 on upwards.  Our favorite is a small device designed for at home use called the Galvanic Spa II from NuSkin.  Results of varying degrees have been favorable for all who have tried it.

As it mirco cleanses & draws toxins out of the skin with a negative change, patended ingredients help hydrate the skin as well as open up pores and    tighten.  I've hear it called the "European Wrinkle Iron".  You can resort to cosmetic surgery solution such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion and surgery itself. However, we believe that it's far better to seek out topical approaches before considering additional surgeries that increase risks to your health and may have adverse result

Beyond treatment, some simple things

You may be concerned about your appearance and strive to take care your skin, especially that of the face. One of the first things to do is protect the skin from harmful Uv-B and Uv-A rays from the sun. There is also growing evidence that despite their appeal, tanning beds are dangerous.

Adequate sunscreens are important everyday! This is a simple matter of fact, however, many people do not understand what "SPF" means. SPF is Sun Protection Factor. It is the amount of time you can stay in the sun without burning. As an example, I will usually start to burn in 30 minutes. If I use an SPF -15, I can stay in the sun 15 times longer which in this case would be 2 1/5 hours. Not forever. It is also important apply sufficient amount. A good rule of thumb is two fingers width. And it's important to reapply every two hours. If you are going swimming, apply your sunscreen at least a half an hour before going into the water.

The appearance of your skin often in an indication of your health. Miss-treating your skin not only through sun exposure, but lack of sleep, excessive alcohol, smoking can also accelerate aging of your skin.

Harmful Skin care Ingredients

Mineral Oil
A refined hydrocarbon derived from petroleum. It can not be absorbed by the skin. Rather it is said to "Seal the Skin". Mineral Oil actually prevents the skin from functioning properly. It can attract dirt and cause blackheads & eruptions and will pull essential trace minerals from the skin
Paraffin
A common ingredient in many beauty and skin care products. It also is a petroleum by-product. It clogs pores and inhibits the skin's natural ability to eliminate toxins. Wax belongs on furniture, not your face! It is not absorbed by the skin, but it blocks the pores.
Bee's Wax
It's just that, a wax. Widely used in the industry and very hard to remove without using harsh solvents such as isopropyl alcohol. For lack of a better analogy, think of putting saran wrap over your face.
Harsh Alcohols
There are some good skin beneficial alcohols. However, the products we are talking about here are harsh on the skin. They penetrate the skin, but because they evaporate quickly, they rob the skin of it's own natural moisture. Watch out for Acetone, ethyl alcohol, SD alcohol, (SD stands for "specially denatured" that has been tainted with poisonous or bitter additives not suitable for consumption), isopropyl alcohol and butyl alcohol.
Borax
A highly toxic chemical compound used as preservative. It is rapidly absorbed by the skin and can cause allergic reactions.
Lanolin (Wool Wax)
Lanolin is widely used in products that may also cause allergic reactions.
Formaldehyde
A common preservative found in nail hardeners and hair growing products. Also used as a (non-listed) surfactant preservative in many soaps and shampoos.
